WALT solve problems

Fortes was asked to show 3+2=?

First I made 3 and then 2. Then I put up 3 fingers on one hand and 2 fingers on the other hand. Then I counted them.

Jazlyn was asked to show 4+4=?

First I put 4 counters. Then I put another 4. That's the same. Then I counted the counters and it was 8.

Healthy eating, exercise, and keeping clean

To be healthy you need to eat good food.

Sandwiches are good food. They help our brain to work.

Fruit and vegetables are good for us. They have lots of good things in it.

Milk gives us strong muscles and bones.

Water is the best thing to drink!

Exercise makes you big and strong . Running is good exercise. Push ups are good exercises, too!

Having a shower makes you clean.

Make sure you clean your room!

Clean your clothes in the washing machine.

Brush your teeth twice a day for 2 minutes each time.

Ice blocks

On Monday room 1 made fruit traffic light ice blocks.

We used use a blender to mix the fruit and make it into a juice.

First we used strawberries and pineapple to make the red part. That part went in first. We put the strawberry mixture into the ice block molds with a spoon.

Next we did the mango. We mixed the mango with pineapple and then we use another spoon to put the mango into the molds. It went on top of the strawberry.

After that we mixed up the kiwifruit with some pineapple and some mango. We had to add mango to make it tasty and yum. Without any mango it was too sour.

The ice block holders were beautiful and colourful. We made a lot of ice blocks. We think they will be tasty and very yummy.

They have lots of different fruit in them, 4 different kinds of fruit! We could make them again using apple, banana, pear, orange, manderines, blueberries, grapes, peaches.... anything that you can think of!

Zoofari Trip

First at the zoo we met some animals. We met a lizard and a hedgehog.

Nate decided he looks like a monkey.
Thom got some grass and put it in a box. Then he threw the box to the Kunekune pigs.
The box got stuck on the Kunekune's head! The Kunekune was called Rodebud. It was funny!
 We saw the lizards.
We saw the Red Panda. The Red Panda was eating some fruit.
We saw the Chimpanzees! They were sleeping and snoring.
We saw a little bit of the lions head. This is a boy lion. They have fur on their heads.
The giraffes were eating food. They are really tall...
 ...AND THEY SMELL REALLY BAD!!
These are baboons. They grey one is the boss.
The Kangaroo wasn't hopping. It was still.
The meercats move their heads fast!
 We did lots of walking!

People liked playing on the fun animals and other things.
This is a cute little monkey.
We are trying to see the otters.

The squares are learning to share

We are learning to share a number.

We are trying to solve 12 between 3.
There are 3 little people so we are going to take 1 each. Then we take another one.
Then we take another and another. We have 4 each. We have the same! We know we have the right answer because the numbers are all the same.

The circles are learning to share

We are learning to share. Sharing means that everyone has to have the same number.

In the first photo we sharing 9 between 3. To start we need to make 3 piles of 1. Then we get another one. Now we have 2 counters. Then we get another one and that makes 3!Everybody has 3!
In this photo we are learning to solve 18 between 3.
First we need to get one each. Then get another one and we have 2. Then we get another one again. We have 3. We get another one. Now we have 4. Then get another one. That is 5! Then we get another one. That's 6! There are no more so the answer is 6.
The most important thing about sharing is that the numbers have to be the same.

The triangles are learning how to share

We are learning to share a number. When we share we put the counters into groups. When we share the groups need to be the same.
In these photos we are solving 20 shared into 5 groups. First we have to make 5 piles of 1.
Then we get another one for each pile. We look and see if the piles are the same. Then we check we have more counters. Then we put another one in every pile. Then we check if they are the same. We still have more counters so we get another one in every pile. We keep going until the piles are the same. We have 4 in each pile
The most important thing about sharing is that the piles are the same.

Hail storm!

We just had a hail storm INSIDE room 1!

We heard it first. It sounded like a rain storm. Then hail came down from roof! It came down on the floor. Some of the pieces were really big! So Mrs Whatford told us to go under the tables to be protected from the ice. We were safe under the tables.

It was scary BUT exciting. We haven't had an ice storm inside before!

Then we went outside to look at all the ice and hail. There was lots of it! It looked like it had been snowing.

Mrs Whatford took a cup outside and got some hail for us to look at. It was a circle/ball shape. It was cold! When it got warm it melted!
